Over Door Canopy Prices: Which Material Is Cheapest?

An over door canopy provides both beauty and shelter to the home, however it is not usually an integral part. Considering the prices that these fixtures can come in, are they really worth cost?

Over Door Canopies: A Look At The Prices

Depending on the type of materials used, an over door canopy can cost about £200-£500. Aside from the materials, the size of it can also affect the pricing. So which type of medium offers the most competitive price?

  • UPVC – A UPVC door canopy, or PVC, is an abbreviation of polyvinyl chloride, which is a thermoplastic polymer that is one of the most widely produced plastics. It is cheap, durable and fairly easy to assemble, making it one of the most common types of material used for door awnings. Depending on the size and style of the awning, prices can go from £255 to as high as £724.
Among the lower price range are flat top canopies and apex ones with a width of 132cm x Depth 51 cm and Height 13 cm. The higher price range of just the canopy is £595 with a width of 163cm x depth 66 x height 76 cm. The £724 price is for those with pilasters.
  • GRP – Glass reinforced plastic, commonly abbreviated as GRP is also beginning to gain popularity because of its strength, durability, ease of installment, and affordability. A GRP door canopy can have a price range of as low as £235 to £555. Although the ones in the £200 range hold a simple style, they are still beautiful and can complement any doorframe. The £500 range contains more effects, with a tiled effect roof, creating that classic, homey look.
  • Aluminum – This material has been in use for roofing purposes for centuries. It is one of the earth’s most common elements, keeping a stable supply and making it an affordable medium. It’s durable and lightweight characteristics keep it competitive to artificially enhanced materials, and the cost of aluminum is by far less than the ones mentioned above.
The cheapest price by far, aluminum canopies can go as low as $143 for a 24 inch by 36 inch awning. On the larger scale, a 60 inch by 84 inch awning could cost up to $415. Since dollars have a lower exchange rate than pounds, these figures are even cheaper than they appear.
  • Timber – The most aesthetically beautiful material there is, timber may be assumed to be more expensive than other materials. However, wooden door canopies lie in the £350-400 range, keeping it affordable to most. Dimensions for these are 110.5 cm height x 50.5 cm depth, similar to the UPVC sizes priced at £255.
    • Fabric – It is expected to note that some fabric door canopies are price at the $150 range. However, it comes as a surprise that some of them are costing as much as $600, more expensive than the aluminum counterpart. This price could be because of the intricacies of the design.

It can be concluded that prices for an over door canopy can go as low as $150 to as high as £700. But these prices are dependent on style, size and material. It is best to figure out a budget, and decide on the material to be used, to get the canopy desired.
